• Case Study: Roof, West Street

A typical small cottage, here we used the Del Carmen slate again and carried out all the Planning and Building Control requirements and replaced a rotten roof light.

This is one of the larger Victorian villa type houses in West Street and our clients had a habitable room in the loft space of many years standing. We had to re-build the chimney and fit slate roof. We also had the added problem of having to get some form of insulation onto the roof itself.

Here we used TLX Gold, a BBA approved external roof insulation, which is applied over the rafters. This insulation gave us many challenges but has been in place now for a couple of years and we think it looks very smart. Interestingly, the replacement ridge tiles took over two days’ searching on the internet through reclaim yards all over the country.

Eventually we managed to locate them, perhaps not surprisingly, in Staffordshire. They were shipped down to finish off a lovely looking roof.
