• Case Study: Single Storey Extension, Nelson

At London Building Renovation we are proud to be part of the business community on Harrow on-the-Hill.

Harrow on-the-Hill is picturesque and, as is well known, a historic village.

Whilst this means that it is a lovely place to live and work, it makes building especially difficult. Nelson Road is a cul-de-sac and we had to build a single storey extension at the top of a road. Deliveries of materials, removal of earth and rubbish and even access to our vehicles all present challenges unique to the area. We work closely with a local business that clears rubbish in smaller vans, which limits the disruption to neighbours. On this job, one of the particular challenges was keeping the original Victorian brick walls that were separating the neighbours’ gardens. They were quite unstable, but as a business with a conservation philosophy, we created a timber structure to hold the walls in place whilst we built the extension.

Originally the design had been drawn with a single back door and a window, but we were able to change the design to incorporate a narrow origin bi-fold door. We laid a new wooden floor from front to back and left the building ready for the client’s own kitchen fitters and decorators to finish the job off.
